Confessions from the Smart Home Revolution

Canadians are becoming increasingly connected at home. The #Smart revolution has become established in the North.

More and more consumers in Canada are transforming their houses into smart homes.  For example, outside they are installing IoT enabled security systems or WiFi cameras. Likewise, in the kitchen appetite for smart devices has extended with connected stoves and IoT enabled coffee makers.  Similarly, smart appliances appear in the bedroom with smart switches and voice enabled (Alexa, Siri) speakers.  As a result, the connected home market is expanding dramatically. The trend indicates worldwide revenue from $24.10 billion in 2016 is expected to grow up to $53.45 billion by 2022. (source statista.com)

Ground zero for the smart home revolution in Canada is the family television. Smart TVs are not a new concept. Traditionally a smart television used either wired or built in Wi-Fi to connect to the internet.  However, the biggest challenges were their difficulty in connecting the Smart TV to the home infrastructure and their complex and confusing user menus.

Home entertainment giants TCL and Roku have teamed up and released two new series of Smart televisions that addresses the primary pet peeves of consumers. The TCL Roku TV 4 series and 6 series televisions offer a premium home entertainment experience.

Seamless Simple Roku Interface

The TCL Roku TV series feature the latest version of the Roku OS. The Roku home screen is an intelligent, easy to navigate system.  Most importantly, for consumers it places all entertainment favorites in one place.

In addition to an HDMI interface it also has an Ethernet jack.  However, for consumers like myself who don’t have CAT5 or CAT6 directly to their TV location, don’t panic. TCL and Roku did the planning for us.  Consequently, setting up these smart TVs are quite simple and can be configured in minutes. Just plug in and turn on your TV. Connecting the TCL Roku TV to your network are just a few steps:

  1. Press on your remote to open the main screen
  2. Scroll down and select Settings
  3. Press the right arrow button and select Network
  4. Press the right arrow button and select Wireless
  5. Your TCL Roku TV will start scanning for available wireless network
  6. Scroll down and select your wireless network name from the list
  7. If your network is password-protected, use the on-screen keyboard to enter your wireless network password.

Once your TV is connected, it will automatically check for, download and install any available software updates.

Endless Entertainment

The award-winning TCL Roku TV smart platform providing seamless access to over 500,000 movies and TV shows through the simple, intuitive Roku interface. As a result, no more flipping through inputs or wading through complicated menus.  Likewise, all your favorites are at your fingertips from the instant you turn it on.  In addition you can choose from thousands of streaming channels plus live sports, news, music, kids and family, food, science and tech, fitness, foreign language, and so much more.

However, for traditionalists, both TCL Roku TV series come with a built-in tuner to enjoy free over-the-air channels.

Awe Inspiring Disruptive Digital Display

The 4 series marries 4K high dynamic range, which delivers bright and accurate colors for lifelike viewing. The premium TCL Roku TV – 6 series TVs  supports Dolby Vision, a comprehensive and premium HDR solution, as well as open HDR.  However, it now boasts HDR Performance Package Pro to further elevate the experience. The HDR pro gamma allows users to select their viewing environment.

To achieve impressive High Dynamic Range performance, the TCL Roku TV – 6 series TVs deliver unmatched contrast ratio  using Contrast Control Zones® .  This technology identifies bright and dark areas in each frame of content.  Most importantly, it controls each zone within the frame to yield striking contrast between light and dark areas. There are 96 zones for the 55” model and 120 zones for the 65” model.

The Smart Evolution will continue to evolve and transform homes. Why not start your Smart Home revolution with a TCL Roku TV?
