Technology can be a tool to solve almost any problem.
The mantra for Technology is about enabling solutions and helping people. Despite the selfish goal of making money, at the heart of any new technology innovation is the drive to solve fundamental problems people have. Take for example the simplistic problem of snoring. Snoring is a common condition that occurs more frequently in men and has a tendency to worsen with age. Snoring impacts 25 percent of people in the U.S. on a regular basis and over 50 percent on an occasional basis. This can also effect the sleep patterns of both the snorer and their partner. Snoring is estimated to be the third most common cause of divorce in the United States.
A U.C. Berkeley study found that disrupted sleep can have other marriage impactful side effects including:
- Approximately 12% of married couples sleep alone.
- Satisfaction in marriage can be linked directly to sleep. Couples who report low marital contentment are much more likely to suffer from a variety of sleep disorders.
Our friends at Finnish innovators QuietOn are aware of the negative impacts of snoring and have developed the QuietOn Sleep earbuds. These ultrasoft super light weight cushion wearables are specifically designed to help a snorer’s partner have that sensational sleep, without having to evacuate their own bed. There are noise cancelling headphones on the market that will mask the problem, however these are only ineffective technology that won’t address the issue.
What distinguishes QuietOn Sleep from the noise cancelling alternatives is the technology.
In QuietOn Sleep, the microphone that samples the sound is located right inside the ear canal! This means that QuietOn can more accurately produce anti-noise that results in good noise cancellation at the ear drum. By locating the microphone in the air volume of the ear canal, QuietOn is also able to reduce noise that is conducted by the skull into the ear.
Traditional earplugs use passive attenuation to reduce the sound entering the ear. While they are good at blocking high frequency sound, they are quite poor at reducing low frequency sound, Unlike other normal noise cancelling earbuds, QuietOn Sleep can block out audio irritations with a frequency below 500 Hz.
Charging for the QuietOn Sleeptakes around an hour. The Blue power indicator lights turn off when charging is completed. Battery life is around 20 hours on single charge. What you should note is that the QuietOn Sleep are sleep specific targeted technology. The earbuds will not connect (via Bluetooth/NFC etc) to your mobile or music devices. Music playback is not supported.
