Why should I upgrade to Wi-Fi 6?

One of the buzz words with home networking is Wi-Fi 6.  You may ask what is Wi-Fi6 and whats the big deal?

Wi-Fi 6 is the next-generation wireless standard. From a timeframe, Wi-Fi 4  or 802.11n was released in 2009.  802.11ac or Wi-Fi 5 was released in 2014. Wi-Fi 6 is the new version, also known as 802.11ax. It was released in 2019.

Benefits of Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 6 provides you with several enhancements in comparison to its predecessor including:

Speed: Theoretically Wi-Fi 6 is 9.6 Gbps. In terms of speed that is 3.5 Gbps faster than Wi-Fi 5.

Battery Life:  Wi-Fi 6 will enhance the functionality of end devices by extending their battery life.  you may ask how.  When a Wi-Fi access point is talking to a device (your computer or smartphone).  it will tell the device  when to put its Wi-Fi radio to sleep and  when to wake it up to receive the next transmission.  The feature called  “target wake time” (TWT) means the Wi-Fi radio can spend more time in sleep mode and thus extending their battery life.

Congestion: Each of us have experienced slowdown to your Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi 6 aims to relieve network congestion, provide greater client capacity  by up to four times.

Where can I get a Wi-Fi 6 system?

With the increased usage at home, Wi-Fi has become more crucial. Home networks are constrained more than ever with most people working from home, schooling from home, or utilizing WiFi

Linksys has unveiled   the newest WiFi 6 mesh system engineered to offer WiFi 6 at an attractive price.  The Velop AX4200 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System delivers true gigabit WiFi speeds to every corner of the home.  Available in 1 pack and 3 packs, the AX4200  can be configured with the help of its mobile  app.  The free Linksys app makes it simple to set up, lets you access your network from anywhere, and allows you to view or prioritize which connected devices are using the most WiFi.

The Alexa integration with the Velop AX4200 enables users to easily manage Wi-Fi access for devices  with commands like “Alexa, turn off Timmy’s Wi-Fi”, or “Alexa, enable guest Wi-Fi” .

Highlights of the Velop AX420 include:

  • WiFi 6 mesh system with built-in Linksys Intelligent Mesh™ Technology, Bluetooth capabilities, and advanced security settings
  • Coverage of up to 2,700 square feet per node
  • Tri-band dynamic backhaul – Unlike some mesh systems that use a dedicated backhaul and limit the number of bands that the user can connect to, Linksys uses a dynamic backhaul, allowing access to all 3 bands throughout the home. Linksys’ dynamic backhaul technology chooses the best band to connect between nodes.

The Velop AX4200 is available now on Linksys.com and is coming soon to Canada retailers on 11/13.
