LG provides a rollable insight into the future at #CES2021

LG kicked off day one of #CES2021.  Traditionally LG unveils its next generation TVs and smart appliances.  However this year LG threw consumers some spice with its rollable displays  and  air-purifying masks.

As expected LG announced  a technology upgrade to its flagship TV lineup.  These Next Generation TV’s include  features such as a new OLED panel, a new advanced LCD panel structure that combines Quantum NanoCell colour technology with mini LED backlighting for improved colour accuracy and greater contrast, an upgraded AI processor, and a redesigned webOS .

  • LG’s newest G1 series features OLED evo, the next step in the evolution of OLED TV technology that delivers better luminosity for higher brightness and punchy images with amazing clarity, detail and realism.
  • The LG C1 series boasts a diverse range of size options from the 48-inch version favoured by avid gamers to the new 83-inch model which will have all the neighbours inviting themselves over on movie night. Consumers like you and I will love the  the new Gallery Stand  which is an attractive alternative to the sleek, flush-to-the-wall Gallery Design mount for those who desire more flexibility in their interior planning.
  • LG’s latest intelligent processor, the α (Alpha) 9 Gen 4 AI, revamps the performance on the newest LG OLED TV models in the Z1, G1 and C1 series,

Outside the cool television tech, LG also shared with consumers its smart but space saving washer technology and its next generation in high tech masks.  LG’s AI intelligent WashTower, a washer/dryer combination  is stacked to take up half the floor space of a side-by-side configuration. It also features fabric detection.

The AI and IOT enabled technology  takes into account texture and laundry load size to calculate cleaning time and method. Its ‘smart learner’ function remembers wash cycles and temperature settings, and an allergen cycle removes 95 percent of allergens.

LG’s tease of its Rollable smartphone was the highlight of the press conference.  Although details were at a minimal, the phone seemed to function similar to how its rollable OLED televisions work.  According to the Verge the rollable phone is anticipated to  deployed in 2021.

The LG Rollable has what the company calls a “unique resizable screen” that extends from a phone into a small tablet display. The screen slides in and out of place to provide a bigger screen area.

“Our management wanted to show that it is a real product, as there were many rumors around the rollable phone,” says an LG spokesperson in a statement to Nikkei. “As it is released at CES 2021, I can tell that it will be launched this year.”
