Your NAS thinks your Public Cloud Costs are too Expensive

More clouds, more complexity, more challenges, more costs? Is it time for you to change your home cloud computing approach?  Your NAS certainly thinks so.

Cloud computing may be the tidal wave of the digital revolution.  Many of us now use public cloud services like Google Cloud, iCloud (Mac), Creative Cloud (Adobe users), and DropBox. However for some of these services, there continues to be concerns surrounding privacy, value for money, backup restrictions, and data security. Having been consistently notified of my ever increasing iCloud fee, I can testify that there are substitutes to public cloud storage.

The good news for consumers is that hybrid home cloud storage architectures may be an alternate to address these issues.

Hybrid home Cloud NAS (network attached storage) is remote storage that is accessed over the internet. However NAS systems are more than just storage. A NAS device is a fully functional computing sever, with storage capacity, attached to your internal local area network. NAS devices include an operating system and storage may be limited to the size and functionality of your NAS.

Although NAS devices requires more setup as compared to public cloud storage. There are plenty of guides available online that will help you to overcome this hurdle.

Synology’s newest NAS

Synology is aware of the burden on consumers  of the costs of public compute and is hoping to alleviate it one NAS at a time.

The DS723+is the latest entry into the “+” series of Synology’s desktop NAS units. It is the first 2-bay Synology NAS to be upgradeable with 10GbE networking. It has optional support to be scaled up using a DX517 expansion unit, increasing total capacity to seven storage drives.

The DS723+ comes out of the box with intuitive and comprehensive file management, media organization, and backup options. You can easily set up user accounts and automate backup of files and folders. Windows Access Control List (ACL) settings can be managed from your NAS. You can easily configure whether users can view, comment, edit, download, or copy shared files and folders.

Consumers can also share files and folders using links or QR codes, and configure security and access options for additional data protection. Although it is a fantastic cloud drive to back up your pc, Mac and smart phones, the DS723+ has capabilities to make it much more than just cloud storage.

The Synology Office extension lets users collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, and presentation slides in real time, supported by
convenient options such as file versioning for easy restoration and password protection

Identify and backup your important files and photos

The DS723+ has a cornucopia of license and subscription-free back up applications that will allow users to back up crucial data. Whether it is video files, irreplaceable family photos, or tax records.

Synology Photos serves as a media organization hub for enthusiasts and professionals looking to efficiently manage and share their photos and videos through intuitive browsing options and secure sharing methods

Home Security Integration

Synology Surveillance Station allows consumers to build a custom monitoring console. With support for up to 40 IP cameras.9 Synology Surveillance Station transforms the DS723+ into an integrated Network Video Recorder solution.

  • 8,300+ supported camera models
  • ONVIF support for a broader selection of cameras
  • Private, subscription-free storage of recordings
  • Access through web browsers, desktop clients, or mobile apps
  • Event-based rules to trigger specific actions
  • Email, SMS, and push notification options

Synology is hoping to help consumers take a bite out of their public cloud storage costs, one NAS at a time.
