Smarter Health Tech with Withings Body Smart Scale

In general, North Americans are becoming more healthy. Over the past decades the overall mortality rate and life expectancy have improved significantly. However, there is still work to be done. According to the Center of Disease Control, six in ten adults adults live with one chronic disease. Four in ten adults have two or more chronic diseases.

Unfortunately issues such as lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating and an increase in sedentary behavior are three of the contributing factors that have been associated with health risks, including obesity and decreased fitness.

The good news for consumers is there are wellness technology that can help us to transform our livestyles and increase our well being.

WITHINGS New Body Smart Scale

Health pioneer Withings, introduced the Body Smart, the latest addition to its smart scale lineup.
An amalgamation of multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), precision weight sensors, and advanced algorithms enables Body Smart, to provide consumers with insights into their health.

The multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis BIA works by sending a small electrical signal through the body, which measures the resistance and reactance of body tissues to the current. The more frequencies used, the more complete and accurate the picture of body health can be created.

Body Smart, focuses on Withings three pillars.

  • Multifrequency BIA for great accuracy, precise and consistent weight measurements up to 50g
  • Advanced health insights, including tracking both health vital measurements
  • Health condition assessments.

Body Smart, provides precise weight and body composition analysis as well as advanced health measurements, including heart rate, visceral fat, metabolic age, and basal metabolic rate. Body Smart, can also measure visceral fat, the type of fat that surrounds the internal organs that has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Body Smart, will also be able to measure Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is the number of calories the body burns at rest, and it provides valuable information about the user’s overall metabolic health. By measuring BMR, users can better understand their overall health and make informed decisions about their diet and exercise.

For those who want to know but not see their weight

Body Smart, also features a color screen that displays all the relevant information. And built for me, it also features an Eyes Closed Mode where the user’s weight is tracked in the accompanying Withings app but does not appear on the screen. Instead, users see encouraging, motivating messages or daily information (step counts, air quality, and the weather).

Compatible with up to eight users, other modes include athletic, pregnancy*, and baby to accurately weigh even the smallest family member.
