Ray-Ban Meta Headliner push the streaming boundaries for Smart Glasses

Smart glasses have been around for a while now, but they have not gained much popularity among consumers.

According to a report by Statista, the unit sales of augmented reality (AR) glasses among the leading brands worldwide are expected to amount to 410 thousand units in 2021 and rise to 3.9 million units by 2024. The global smart glass market size was estimated at USD 5.83 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.9% from 2023 to 2030.

However, if you compare this stat to smartwatches. They are expected to generate revenues of around 45 billion U.S. dollars by 2023, with shipments of more than 300 million units in the same year.

One of the reasons for this is that smart glasses are often seen as heavy, clunky, intrusive and uncomfortable to wear. The shrinkage of electronic and power supplies will address some of these concerns. In the near future, light, unobtrusive smart glasses will reliably support deskless work and make technicians more efficient in their tasks.

Smart Glasses that are pushing the Boundaries

Available in 7 distinct colors, the latest in the smart glasses’ technology is the Ray-Ban Meta Headliner. Meta is once again teaming up with Ray-Ban for its next generation of smart glasses,

Designed for the live streamer, these sun glasses include all the AR intelligence from the prior Ray-Ban Stories while also supporting hands-free live streaming for up to 30 minutes at a time. However, unlike its predecessor, the new glasses are lighter, have a slimmer profile and are water-resistant (IPX4).

What will give you a charge of these glasses are the battery life. Capable of lasting up to four hours, plus eight more charges through the slimming charging case. This will provide the user with up to 36 hours of play time.

Users can capture their point-of-view using the 12MP ultra-wide 12MP camera featured in these glasses. From an audio perspective, the smart glasses now feature five built-in mics that can record spatial audio.

From an operability perspective, you can use voice controls or tap-optics (tap control haptics) to stream, stop, play, fast forward and other controls.

One of the biggest concerns previously was regarding privacy. This is addressed simply with a new LED indicator on the left. The light turns on every time you record a picture or video, alerting others when you’re capturing content.

Preorders for Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are available now at Amazon and Best Buy.
