As a parent of a newborn baby, it can be challenging to know what sleep habits are normal and what to expect. Unfortunately, it is alarming to hear about the statistics with babies and sleeping.
In the United States, there are about 3,500 sleep-related deaths among U.S. babies each year, including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), accidental suffocation, and deaths from unknown causes (source CDC).
In Canada, from 2015 to 2020, there were approximately 1,700 deaths per year among infants under the age of one. On average, 1 in 15 (110) of these deaths occurred while the infant was sleeping. The majority (83%) were sudden and unexpected and occurred in otherwise healthy infants.
Some of the risk factors for sleep-related infant deaths include placing infants to sleep on their stomach, bed sharing with another person, sleeping on a surface not designed for infant sleep.
Smart Technology to help keep your baby safe
However, LittleOne.Care is a tech company that is looking to introduce next gen technology that will help make an impact today.
LittleOne.Care Smart Watch is the premier baby monitoring system to help your newborn sleep safe and sound. The smartwatch detects a baby’s sleep motion, sleep and wake patterns, and alerts for any falls, sudden movements, or unintended tummy sleeping to protect against SIDs.
What makes this device different than its competitors is that it is designed with the safety of your little one in mind. The Smartwatch is designed according to strict safety regulations for babies and it is safe to use as long as you follow the instructions. It is recommended to attach the ring to the inside of your little one’s shirt and twisting the chip to fit on the outside.
The device changes color to red and, in specific in case of emergencies, exudes alarm noises. The device does not transmit Wi-Fi, nor Bluetooth. The AI technology analyzes the motion (acceleration and sounds) and alerts the care-taker in these situations:
- Detects a baby’s sleep motion anywhere
- Alerts for unintended tummy sleeping
- Alerts for excessive noise or yelling
- Alerts for shaking or sudden movements
- Alerts for aggressive handling or care
- Alerts for falls from changing tables or other high surfaces
In addition to real time alerts, at the end of each day, parents receive highly detailed data in the application, which they can discuss with baby experts or the medical provider.
The device is currently on preorder and is expected to ship in November of this year.
