PreEvnt Unveils Revolutionary Breath-Based Glucose Monitor #CES2025

This Tiny Device Could Transform Diabetes Management Forever

If you’ve ever watched someone managing diabetes, you know the drill: the constant finger pricks, the test strips, the meticulous tracking of blood sugar levels. It’s a routine that’s both necessary and, let’s face it, pretty uncomfortable. But what if I told you that checking blood glucose levels could be as simple as taking a breath?

That’s exactly what PreEvnt, a subsidiary of SCOSCHE Industries, has achieved with their groundbreaking new device called isaac. I got a first look at the details behind this innovative gadget ahead of #CES2025, and I have to say – it’s impressive.

A Grandfather’s Love Sparks Innovation

The story behind isaac is one that touches the heart. When Bud Wilcox’s grandson Isaac was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes at just two years old, watching the toddler endure multiple daily finger pricks was heart-wrenching. Instead of just accepting this as “the way things are,” Bud decided to find a better solution. Little did he know, his quest would lead to one of the most innovative developments in diabetes management we’ve seen in years.

How Does It Actually Work?

Here’s where things get fascinating. Remember those amazing stories about dogs who can detect when their owners’ blood sugar levels are off? Well, isaac works on a similar principle. These trained service dogs can sort through roughly 2,000 different compounds in human breath to identify when blood sugar is high. The team at PreEvnt has essentially created a digital version of this incredible capability.

The device uses something called Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) detection – specifically looking for acetone in your breath. No needles, no blood, just a quick breath into a device smaller than your smartphone. It’s pretty mind-blowing when you think about it.

The Science Behind the Magic

This isn’t just some cool idea that someone dreamed up overnight. The technology has been in development for five years, with serious scientific muscle behind it. Dr. M. Agarwal and the team at Indiana University have been working with PreEvnt to perfect the technology. They’re using something called “selective gas sensing MOx technology” (developed by Nanoz), which sounds complex because, well, it is. But for users, it’s as simple as breathing.

Real-World Impact

Think about what this means for different people:

  • For kids like Isaac, it means fewer painful finger pricks
  • For Type-2 diabetics, it offers an easier way to track how diet and exercise affect their levels
  • For pre-diabetics, it provides a simple tool to monitor their health without the hassle of traditional testing
  • For anyone interested in their metabolic health, it opens up new possibilities for tracking and understanding their body

*Note: Isaac by PreEvnt is undergoing continued development and FDA review and is not for sale in the U.S. at this time.
