Solar Sentinel: Long-Range Security, Unleashed by the Sun

Over the last few years Cottage break-ins have surged in various communities across Canada and the United States.

These incidents are often crimes of opportunity, with thieves targeting easy marks. As cottages have evolved from rustic retreats to luxurious getaways, they’ve become prime targets due to their remote locations.

Looking to reach areas when owners are unable, Swann Security has unveiled its latest in threat detection products. Swann’s latest offering, the MaxRanger4K, boasts an impressive signal range. Unlike regular Wi-Fi cameras, it operates on 900MHz long-range wireless technology, reaching up to 2,000 feet in open air—20 times the coverage of most Wi-Fi cameras.

The MaxRanger4K™ Solar Security System is an innovative solution that combines cutting-edge technology with solar power. Each of the 4 cameras comes with built-in solar panels. These panels ensure that the cameras remain 100% wire-free and continuously powered by harnessing energy from the sun. With solar charging, you never have to worry about recharging the cameras

The MaxRanger4K comes pre-paired with its hub for quick installation. Controlled via the Swann Security app, the camera offers two-way audio and TrueDetect+ technology. It detects heat, motion, people, and cars, triggering mobile alerts, video recording, spotlights, and sirens.

The Power hub boasts 64GB of local memory and free cloud backup for recordings. However, unlike traditional cameras that go dark during power outages, the hub has a built-in battery, providing up to five hours of backup power.

Installation instructions

Swann has designed the MaxRanger 4K, so that it is easily installed. This system utilizes HaLow Wi-Fi network technology for a longer, stronger, and more reliable connection, while consuming very low power for extended battery life. The included cameras support 4K color, day, and night vision with Sony STARVIS technology. Getting the system up will require a small set of instructions:

  1. Unbox the MaxRanger4K Solar Security System. Place the Power Hub in a central location within your cottage.
  2. Attach the antennas to both the Power Hub and the cameras. For optimal signal strength, position the antennas facing straight up or, if not possible, straight down.
  3. Connect the Power Hub to your router using an Ethernet cable. This provides internet access for remote monitoring. You should note that the Power Hub does not have built-in Wi-Fi, so a wired connection is necessary.
  4. In Live View mode, click on a channel to pair a camera. A pair button will appear. Press it to commence pairing. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
  5. The Power Hub has a SATA power and data cable inside. You can connect a 2.5” hard drive or SSD for local storage. Alternatively, upgrade to a larger Micro SD Card (up to 256GB) if the supplied 64GB card is insufficient. An external USB HDD can also be connected to the USB Storage port on the hub for additional recording storage.
  6. If necessary, perform a firmware update for the Power Hub.
